EXPANSION

In November of 1996, eight young Latina women at California Polytechnic State University , San Luis Obispo , came together to create an organization that would provide them with a home away from home, while creating a support network both socially and academically at the University. To this day, Sigma Omega Nu has spread to Universities across California , and continues to provide its members with moral, academic and family support.

Starting a chapter of Sigma Omega Nu is an honorable and respected process. The Expansion process is one in which the foundation is laid for the establishment of a successful and thriving chapter. This process fosters the proper establishment of a chapter by:

• Initiating the bonds of sisterhood between the interested women, Sisters and Alumnae
• Providing the history of the organization
• Creating an academic support network
• Developing significant cultural and service projects to serve the surrounding community
• Improving leadership skills and encouraging personal growth

To begin the Expansion process, an interest group of a minimum of six (6) members must be established. Interested members must have a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.0, and be in good academic standing with the University. Undergraduate students must be enrolled on a full-time basis, and graduate students must be enrolled on a part-time basis.

A Letter of Interest must be presented to the National Director of Expansion. This letter must include the reasons why a chapter of Sigma Omega Nu is desirable on the respective campus, as well as the names of all interested members. Also included with the letter should be a copy of the governing Greek Council’s constitution (MGC, USFC, etc.), as well as the University’s requirements for establishing a new organization.

Upon receipt of the above information, the Director of Expansion shall contact you with further information regarding our organization and the Expansion process.
